April 19st, 2018, Dr. April Pawluk, the scientific editor of Cell, visited School of Life Science and Technology (SLST) at ShanghaiTech University and gave a lecture entitled, “Publishing at Cell Press”.
Cell was founded by Dr. Benjamin Lewin in 1974, under the aegis of MIT Press in early days. Then an independent Cell Press was established in 1986. Cell Press spun off many new journals including: Molecular Cell, Developmental Cell, Cancer Cell, Cell Stem Cell, iScience, Trends review series and so on.
Dr. Pawluk explained what happens during the editorial process, including how to select manuscripts for peer review and how to communicate with authors and reviewers. She also explained what editors are looking for and how to share discoveries effectively with a broad audience. Moreover, Dr. Pawluk suggested what should be done before submitting a manuscript to Cell press and after receiving reviewer’s comments. The lecture received lots of attentions from both faculties and students in ShanghaiTech.
