Program Introduction

The mission of the Quality Management System (QMS) Program is to promote quality and its management in China and around the world. The program emphasizes the importance of integrity and quality in achieving personal and business success.

Students can customize their levels of training according to their interests and career plans. Those who are curious about the concept of quality can explore the basics of quality management in Quality 101, the Program’s introductory course. Those who want to further study quality management in business, FDA-regulated industries, or as entrepreneurs can select courses relevant to their areas of interest.

The Program offers training certificates to students who completed the courses and credit requirements for:

    - ISO 9001. The most accepted quality management systems around the world.

    - ISO 13485. The most adopted regulatory requirements for quality management systems of medical devices internationally.

    - ISO 17025. An international laboratory quality management systems standard for testing and calibration laboratories.

The courses in the QMS program are taught by experienced and highly qualified professionals (including corporate executives, senior consultants, regulatory officials, etc.). The courses are based on the latest international standards, fortified with case-studies and project-based learning to ensure the timeliness, practicality and effectiveness of the courses. Each course is given in small class with interactive learning approach to increase student participation and interest.

Target Students

1.Students who are interested in quality issues and ways to improve the quality of Chinese products;

2.Students with science and engineering background who wish to learn practical management tools in preparation for management positions;

3.Students who are interested in scientific research or enterprise research and development (R&D) work;

4.Students who are interested in quality assurance and quality management in high-tech industries (such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, energy, aerospace, automotive, or food industries)

5.Students who are interested in becoming quality management or regulatory affairs professionals in government or industries.

Course System

QMS program consists of three phases courses and various supporting activities (lectures, Quali-Tea, corporate training, internships, job opportunities, etc.).

Ø  Stage I, basic courses, teaching the basic content of the quality management system; Quality 101 is prerequisite course of all Stage II & III courses.

Ø  Stage II, advanced courses, teaching quality management system of a specific topic content;

Ø  Stage III, industry courses, teaching higher level topics for specific industries.

Certificates Introduction

QMS course series issue three kinds of certificates*:

1. Shanghaitech University Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) Training Certificate

ISO 9001 is an international standard of quality management systems applicable to general types of business. Students can obtain ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems Requirements for Regulatory Purpose of ShanghaiTech University, once the designated 9 credits are earned.

The acquisition of the training certificate suggests that the student has systematic understanding in the basic principles and elements of the quality management systems, and he/she has finished systematic theoretical study and training practice.

2. Shanghaitech University Medical Devices Quality Management Systems (ISO 13485:2016) Training Certificate

ISO 13485:2016 is an international quality management system standard specialized in the medical equipment industry. China’s regulations and supervisory rules are also formulated according to this standard. Because the course content also fully covers the requirements of ISO 9001, students can gain both the ISO 13485:2016 Medical Devices-Quality Management Systems Requirements for Regulatory Purpose and the ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems Requirements for Regulatory Purpose after completing designated 11 credits.

The acquisition of the training certificate suggests that the student has a systematical understanding in the basic principles and elements of the quality management systems in medical equipments. He/she has finished systematic study and training practice.

3. Shanghaitech University Laboratory Management Training Certificate

ISO 17025 is an international laboratory quality management systems standard for testing and calibration laboratories. Students can gain the Certificate of ShanghaiTech University Laboratory Quality Management Systems after completing designated 12 credits.

The acquisition of the training certificate suggests that the student has systematic understanding in the basic principles and elements of the quality management systems in laboratory, and he/she has finished systematic theoretical study and training practice.
